We love food. We love making it, we love serving it, and above all, we love eating it.
The food that tastes the best always follows a few simple principles. It starts with great ingredients, it’s prepared by passionate chefs, and it’s plated beautifully because, well, it makes the whole experience that little bit more special.
When you sit down to a meal by the water—whether it’s our Big Classic breakfast, our seasonal cauliflower eggs benedict, or our Applewood Smoked Pork Belly Ramen—you don’t necessarily need to know all the details of how it was made. You just want to sit back, soak up the bay breeze, and enjoy the food.
But seeing as you’re here, I’m guessing you’re interested. And knowing what goes into it might even add to the experience.
Groundhog Social is widely known as a seaside spot for exceptional coffee. We work hard for that consistency every day—investing in electronic tampers, precision grinders, and dialling in pours so every cup is on point.
What people might not realise is what happens just behind the pass. Tucked out of sight is a well-equipped kitchen built for serious cooking, giving our chefs the freedom to cook at the highest level and prepare fresh, restaurant-quality dishes every morning.
It starts with sourcing. Throughout the week, we take deliveries from local suppliers and independent producers with produce we love: fresh seasonal vegetables and premium cuts from award-winning butchers.
Next comes the prep. Our rule is straightforward: if we can make it ourselves, we do.
Take our signature pork ramen. We don’t buy pre-cooked pork. We brine it, smoke it over applewood, and slow-cook it right here until it’s melt-in-the-mouth tender. The strawberry jam layered into our Iced Berry Matcha? Stewed down from scratch right here in our kitchen. And the relish that accompanies our Big Classic is made fresh in-house, not ladled out of a commercial catering tub.

If you want to serve good food, there are simply no shortcuts.
That same kitchen craft is what makes our private events and dinner specials so memorable. For special occasions like our Valentine’s Day dinners, our chefs really shine—serving multi-course menus like tender beef fillet in a truffle-infused beef consommé.
Next time you’re down on the Manly Esplanade, stop by for lunch and taste the difference for yourself.
Or, if you’re planning a celebration, corporate dinner, or private function, you can hire our space and let our chefs design a custom menu just for you.
